“The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all.”
– The Emperor, Disney’s Mulan
I live in a city. Sure, it’s a small-ish city. But, it’s a city. Walking around it is pretty obvious that there is more pavement than pasture. So, as I walk around our neighborhood I look for the bits of nature that are cultivated and those that creep through the urban landscape on their own. Sometimes focusing on beautiful things that spring up in gardens and through the cracks takes my focus away from the surrounding pavement. We are lucky here in Salem. There is a nice balance of grey and green.
This afternoon I took a walk around the neighborhood and took these pictures using my iPhone. As I was taking the snaps of the flowers from around the neighborhood, it made me think of the song, “The Golden Afternoon” from Walt Disney Pictures’, “Alice in Wonderland.”
Here is the link to the song followed by pictures from my walk.

And we will see
Some things that move us happily

It also makes me think of the donkey, Eeyore from A. A. Milne’s, Winnie-the-Pooh, because he liked to eat them.

“You can learn a lot of things from the flowers
For especially in the month of June [or July]
There’s a wealth of happiness and romance
All in the golden afternoon.”
– Disney’s, “Alice in Wonderland”
